Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for concerns to be raised about his position following a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the team's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from above,” Slot stated.
“It would be great to change things and secure a win obviously but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “During our regular exchanges I perceive the trust. However I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Response
The manager highlighted familiar shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a phase such as this with outcomes so bad.”
He finished, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we will always compete.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and it must improve.”
