Lawmakers from the Democratic party voiced fury after Donald Trump charged a coalition of Democratic representatives of being "traitors" and declared they should be taken into custody and punished "by death" following their publication of a disputed video.

The Message That Provoked the Controversy

The video footage, shared on Tuesday, includes six Democratic congress members who formerly worked in military or security positions.

"Like us, you all made an oath to safeguard and support this constitution," the representatives affirmed in the brief video. "And right now, the threats to our constitution are not only from foreign nations, but from within our own country. Lawmakers' Strong Response

The representatives who were featured in the video also issued a response.

"We identify as veterans and security experts who value this United States and made an pledge to defend and defend the constitution of the United States," they said. "Our pledge is permanent, and we intend to keep it. No intimidation, pressure, or call for violence will stop us from that fundamental duty."

He added: "This represents an direct THREAT. Every Senator, all representatives, all citizens – without partisan consideration – should condemn this right away and unconditionally."

The GOP leader defended Trump's assertion that the Democrats had engaged in "rebellion", describing the video as "wildly inappropriate", adding: "It is very harmful, you have important representatives of Congress instructing military personnel to disobey orders, I think that represents unprecedented in US history."
