Individual Charged with Trying to Kill in Shooting of National Football League Player Kris Boyd
A suspect has been formally accused with trying to kill someone in connection with the attack that wounded New York Jets NFL player Kris Boyd.
Suspect Named and Taken Into Custody
The accused is a man from the Bronx, twenty years old. Law enforcement took him into custody on Monday, charged with attempted murder.
Details of the Mid-November Shooting
The violent event happened in the early hours of 16 November, outside a well-known New York City restaurant. Law enforcement characterized the event as a confrontation with a group of strangers.
Boyd, age 29, was accompanied by two other Jets players and a third companion in Midtown Manhattan when the verbal confrontation began.
It resulted in a altercation, during which it is alleged Green fired at Boyd two times in the abdomen.
Severe Wounds and Recovery
The bullet pierced Boyd's lung and became embedded in his pulmonary artery. He was transported to the hospital in grave condition but was eventually released.
It has been reported he has met with his teammates at a team training location.
Manhunt and Arrest in Another City
Surveillance video from the area allegedly captured Green fleeing and entering a vehicle operated by another person.
Law enforcement apprehended Green on 8 December in a city approximately 580km away, where he was reportedly hiding at his partner's residence.
A official announcement stated that "a suspect" had been arrested.
When a team surrounded the apartment complex, the suspect was seen "looking out the apartment window searching for an escape avenue but went back in after seeing the team and a canine officer," the report said.
The situation ended shortly thereafter, when the man exited the apartment with his hands up.
The accused had "altered his appearance likely to evade capture," law enforcement commented.
The Player's Professional Background
Prior to joining the Jets this season, Boyd was a member of the Houston Texans over multiple years in the NFL.
The defensive player had been on the team's injury list for the Jets after suffering a injury to his shoulder during team practice in August.
