The Italian premier, Giorgia Meloni, plans to auction around 270 gifts given to her by international figures while abroad. This unusual assortment is said to contain objects like a chainsaw-wielding statuette of Argentinian president Javier Milei and a pair of exotic blue snake-skin shoes with gilded heels.

These items, combined, are worth an estimated €800,000. The plan is to sold in a public auction by a Italian art dealer. An exact timeline has not been finalized, but the aim is to hold the auction before Christmas, with all funds raised benefiting various charities.

The presents are said to be locked away in a storage room on the upper level of Palazzo Chigi. It has been reported that Meloni additionally intending to auction off gifts given to her preceding prime ministers that have been sitting unused indefinitely.

The full gift list is yet to be disclosed, but a glimpse emerged earlier this year when a comprehensive document of official presents was presented in parliament. The query centered on whether a statutory cap on gift value was being respected. Legally, a prime minister must declare presents valued above €300.

• An assortment including cosmetics, a skateboard, and numerous carpets from trips to North African and Middle Eastern countries.

"Perhaps the most unusual gifts included the Milei figurine and the blue python skin shoes," one might note.
