My feeling was I got a touch - Alex Carey on overturned decision.
Australia gloveman Alex Carey stated he felt he had edged the ball when he was given not out on review during day one of the 3rd Ashes series Test against the English.
Following his reprieve on 72, Carey went on to make a superb 106 to help the home side reach 326-8 at the close in Adelaide.
The Key Moment
The home side were 245-6 when Carey looked to play a cut shot to the bowling of Josh Tongue.
England were convinced they had a wicket, believing they had heard an edge, but umpire Ahsan Raza gave it not out.
Following captain Ben Stokes challenged the decision, the replay examined by TV umpire Chris Gaffaney indicated a significant spike but this came before the ball had made contact with the bat.
Gaffaney further stated he believed there was a clearance between the bat and the ball.
Therefore, Carey was reprieved.
"There was a sound, I thought I'd nicked it," commented Carey.
"Being given out would have prompted a review, though not a confident one. It was a nice sound as it passed the bat."
Technology Debate
Questions have been raised about 'Snicko'' during the Ashes contest after a several inconclusive incidents.
England's bowling coach David Saker indicated England may escalate this most recent incident further with the match official Jeff Crowe.
"I don't think we've done anything about it so far but after today, maybe that might go a bit further," Saker remarked.
"There have been concerns about it for the whole series. We shouldn't be talking about this after a day's play, it should just be better than that. That's where we are."
Personal Milestone
The ton was his first in Test cricket against England.
It was also an emotional moment for Carey, whose father died in recent months. His spouse was crying in the crowd as the batter marked the occasion by looking to the skies.
"To make a hundred here in front of home fans and family was special," stated Carey.
"I guess you know as well why I was looking to the heavens. It's hard not to get emotional. But, no, it was great."
Previous Ashes Drama
Carey is not new to Ashes controversy.
He was the keeper who famously stumped Jonny Bairstow at Lord's in the 2023 series, resulting in a intense final day.
Regarding the overturned decision he continued: "Snicko obviously didn't line up. That's how the game works; fortune plays a part."
"Perhaps luck was on my side."
