Approximately 55,000 households have currently been harmed by the weather, with their items and shelters ruined.

Intense rains over the past week have worsened the precarious living conditions of the many hundreds of thousands of evacuated Palestinians in the territory, as reported by aid organizations.

"Awful" Weather Creates Serious Threats

A official described the recent storm as "horrendous", with rain so severe that up to 15cm (6in) of water was seen on the streets.

"Last night was exceptionally horrendous for the people. The heavy rains were so intense... And the gusts were so strong," stated the representative.

There is extreme worry that young ones sheltering in temporary structures in damp attire will succumb to hypothermia and various ailments.

Fatalities and Widespread Damage

The health ministry have stated that one baby has passed away from hypothermia and a minimum of 11 other people have died in roof cave-ins due to the harsh conditions.

Additional accounts suggest a higher death toll. Authorities reported that multiple structures had collapsed completely and dozens had sustained partial collapse.

  • Almost 55,000 families harmed by flooding.
  • More than 40 emergency shelters submerged.
  • Many people required to move once more.

Aid Operations Deemed Not Enough

Groups have stepped up distribution of tents, warm covers and clothes after the truce started, but they stress there is still not enough aid reaching those in need.

"Officials are striving constantly to provide that aid and to distribute it, but the size of the necessities is so immense that we are faced with thousands of individuals and minors who are really suffering nightly," warned one spokesperson.

Future Challenges and Ceasefire Provisions

The next stage of the ceasefire encompasses plans for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with political arrangements, the withdrawal of personnel, and other provisions.

Relief organizations have underscored the need for "increased and sustained humanitarian assistance to respond to immediate and long-term requirements."

The war was triggered by an attack in late 2023. Subsequent military operations have caused a significant number of lives lost in the region, according to official reports.
