The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Series on BBC
The beloved police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh season, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The last season concluded in recent years with a finale that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a offender.
However, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still active in the background, plot details suggested.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many followers watch the ups and downs of AC-12 over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor described appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."
"Pleased with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful television series of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC has not yet announced when the upcoming series will premiere.
The conclusion of series six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the time there were no plans for further series.
However, the corporation confirmed on this week that a new season is now in development.
