The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few notable adjustments:

  • Each team includes only 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives more options for players seeking alternative ways to enjoy the title. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.

Player Responses: From Fury to Support

"People want real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while another lists everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Community Input

Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the community compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
