The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Chose the Wrong Critical Role Track
This latest animated series, the newest animated series by Critical Role, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while also hinting at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for characters including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, Fjord.
All in all, the opening looks amazing. However, I felt that something was missing in the song choice.
The intro uses "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar song created by artist the talented musician. It's a track from the official score of the same name, the second release released by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will love its inclusion.
Personally, The series' intro fails to capture the hype and energy that accompanied the second campaign's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit for me when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in the later year.
Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the same chords for me. It's a grand composition, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the series will have some changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro appears as among these.
This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of the second series, the actual play are available on Spotify and the video site.
