The retailer's Glittering Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Legendary Pokémon Promotion Persists to Encounter Problems
In late September, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company announced a joint event with GameStop. Until October 15, Glittering versions of the iconic legendary Pokémon from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are being given away at brick-and-mortar GameStop locations in the United States and at EB Games in Australia and New Zealand. Participating stores in additional nations such as France and Japan have also been included in the campaign.
Early Troubles and Code Shortages
Nonetheless, the promotion faced difficulties from the beginning—Pokémon fans reported that their nearby shops had exhausted their code supplies in the period before the giveaway. Now, midway into the giveaway timeframe, GameStop has replenished the codes, but it's likely your local store has depleted its stock again.
Because of high demand, the initial batch of complimentary Shiny Koraidon and Miraidon codes were snapped up rapidly.
Saturday, October 4th, GameStop declared a code restock via social media. Their announcement noted that they had collaborated with Pokémon's creators to provide additional codes, but there's a catch. "We have received from Pokémon a limited number of receipt codes, approximately 50 per store."
Scalping and Resale Issues
Initially, stores were given fifty codes, but they were rapidly depleted. Even with the promotion limiting codes to one per person, some eBay listings surfaced with several codes available. That's remained true for the new round of codes. A prominent response on X stated, "These codes right?" alongside images of eBay listings for the codes, with at least one having several codes on offer.
Varied Outcomes for Fans
Certain fans managed to obtain codes during the weekend from their nearby shops, while some had no such luck. "Hoping for a third opportunity. Just called my GameStop. They’re out of codes (again)," one individual remarked, before other players stepped up and provided them with spare codes for the shiny legendary Pokémon.
Unanswered Questions
The reason these shiny legendary Pokémon were not obtainable via a Tera Raid battle or distributed digitally via Mystery Gift remains unknown. At present, you must visit your local store and hope they still have codes remaining if you want a shiny version of these legendary Pokémon.
