This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life without fear.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “6-7” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
