Thrice-crowned Most Valuable Player Jokic sustains a 'devastating' leg setback.
Three-time National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic endured a "gut-wrenching" knee injury while the Denver Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 to the Miami Heat.
The Serbian center sustained the injury late in the first half following an inadvertent collision with team-mate Jones.
Jones landed on the foot of the MVP, who instantly went down to the ground clutching his leg.
The veteran player, who leads the NBA season in boards and dimes, recorded a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the game before incurring the setback.
He is scheduled for an MRI scan on Tuesday to evaluate the seriousness of the problem.
"Immediately, Jokic understood something was wrong," commented Nuggets coach David Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Whoever who is injured, it's tough to see, particularly a player as special as he is. We will know more on Tuesday."
"We'll move on as a team. Of course, right now, I'm more worried about Jokic as a person and the letdown of going through something of that nature."
