Tottenham Boss Frank Calls Goalkeeper Booers 'Not True Genuine Fans'

Fulham Start Strong to Defeat Spurs and Increase Tension on the Manager

Tottenham Hotspur fans who booed goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "they can't be real Spurs supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.

Tottenham conceded a pair of scores in the opening six minutes to fall 2-1 to their opponents, registering their tenth top-flight at home defeat of 2025.

But the primary topic of discussion was Fulham's second goal when Vicario gave away possession far beyond his area.

The goalkeeper ventured out to handle a high pass and carried the ball near the touchline.

However, rather than kicking it into touch, the Italy international turned and attempted to clear away, but slipped as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was collected by King.

King laid the ball off to Welsh midfielder Harry Wilson, who curled a shot into the goal from the sideline recorded at thirty-six point six metres.

Moments later when the ball went to Vicario once more, some Spurs fans jeered him.

The team were booed off at half-time, with the side 2-0 down, and once more at the final whistle.

One of those jeering sessions truly angered the manager.

"I heard a few of our supporters reportedly booed the situation and booed following, which, in my opinion is totally unjustifiable," the Dane commented about the supporters' response to his goalkeeper.

"[They] can't be real Tottenham fans that act that way. Alright jeering following the match, fine, but when we are playing, we are supporting one another, we are behind one another moving ahead."

Tete had handed the visitors a early lead before Harry Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an better second-half showing.

Ex- Premier League goalkeeper Hart stated that the next score was "totally avoidable".

"I certainly appreciate the fans' frustration," the ex-keeper continued. "I know the role the keeper is performing. He's a great squad member, he is a true leader in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your decisions.

"He was deeply implicated in what turned out to be the decisive score."

'It's Part of Football, I Can Handle It'

Thomas Frank Defended His Keeper Vicario Following the Match

Italian international Vicario is in his 3rd campaign with Spurs.

The 29-year-old said after the game that he had to accept the criticism.

"That goal was a mistake of mine, I accept responsibility for that," he said.

"My aim was to kick the ball far and I simply struck the ball in a poor manner. It was an even bigger challenge to overcome."

He said being booed "is part of football".

"I am mature, what can I say?" he added. "We cannot be influenced by the situation in the crowd. Supporters have the entitlement to do what they think.

"It's on us to remain more composed, to focus on ourselves. The team is lacking in calmness and calmness to overturn outcomes. Today is a poor defeat and it's tough to take."

'It Shocked Me No One Went Back to the Goal Line'

In spite of the keeper's error, it was not an simple goal for Wilson to score.

In fact it was the second most distant Premier League goal of the season – after Adams' 43.3 metre strike for the Cherries against Sunderland, which interestingly too came on Saturday.

The goalscorer said he was "a little bit surprised" that he still had an open net to aim for.

Ten seconds elapsed between Vicario coming out of his area and Wilson striking – which was five moments following the kick.

"It seemed to me like the keeper was away from the box for ages," Wilson remarked.

"It amazed me not one of the back four went back to the goal line. When none of them defended the goal, my eyes lit up a bit.

"[Destiny] Udogie fell as well, which allowed me a bit of extra time. After that it was all about attempting to make the correct contact and get it towards goal. I felt a positive feeling, the moment it left my foot, that it was heading in."

'When You're in a Bad Spell, All Seems to Work Against You'

Booing While We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unacceptable - the Manager

Although Vicario's mistake dominated coverage, this was an overall poor performance for Tottenham to extend their home ground woes.

This was their tenth at home loss of the year in the league, a joint team statistic matching nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.

The side still have home games against the manager's old side the Bees and title holders the Reds to play prior to the end of the year.

Only one of those wins have come since the manager replaced his predecessor in the off-season.

"When you're behind 2-0 following six minutes, there is a huge challenge to overcome," said the boss.

"When you're in a poor run, everything seems to go against you too – the first was a deflected shot, the second is a mistake from the keeper.

"The outcome puts us in a place where we have suffered an additional match. Every game has a single story, this game we were defeated in the early stages.

"We simply need to keep working. The second half was significantly improved and with luck something we can utilize to develop."

Tottenham have lost 4 straight at home capital clashes for the first time in the top division.

And they are recording 9.5 shots and three point two shots on target per game in the division – their poorest rates on file in a one season (dating back to the 2003-04 season).

Former Fulham midfield player Danny Murphy commented that Frank has to ride the storm.

"He's got take the stick," Murphy said. "He has taken a prestigious job at a huge football club with massive expectation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that comes with that.

"The performances at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
